When the Dog Bites, Create!

One of my favorite movies is "The Sound of Music". I love how Julie Andrews, when the captain refuses to give her money for playclothes for the children, she turns her anger into something constructive and makes (very hideous) play clothes for them out of green curtains.
This has been one of those "dog biting" weekends, not because any captain is refusing me material for children's clothing, but just a string of hurtful occurances. Instead of moping around all day, I decided to channel my anger and hurt into creating something hopefully prettier than those hideous green clothes!:

This is an anti-legalism verse: "Nothing is better than to rejoice and do good in one's life, Every man should eat and drink and enjoy the fruit of his labor, it is the gift of God." (Ecclesiastes 3:12-13)  I am thinking of selling this bowl in my etsy shop, but first I have to figure out how to get the paint to stay on when washed! If it doesn't sell, it will be a great Christmas present.
I also created this banner for my etsy shop:

Now my day is beautiful.

What do you do "when the dog bites?"

  1. Lovely verse and great idea!
I've never really thought about what I do when I get "bitten". But I know I do try very hard to acknowledge the event and endeavour not to let it get to me. I always analyze my role in the matter so I can correct myself if needed, or so I can rest my mind that I am not in any way to blame. It is important to me to do this step because over the years I find I have grown and can often say "I had no role" but then pray for the oppressor or resolve how to deal with them in future (avoidance, pleasantries but limited contact, etc.). I guess sometimes I do something distracting to get my mind on more pleasant things. I try very hard not to spend very much time on the matter and to live as peaceably as possible.

  2. The best way I know to get over something is to distract myself at first, and then to pray for the situation. To pray for the person, that God will help me love and forgive, and to pray about whatever circumstances are involved. That usually does the trick.
