50 Things in 14 days

"Harvey called in sick. He decided to blog at home today."
This week I came down with another, even worse, virus than last week - the stomach flu!  At first, I kept bursting into tears, not because of  the room-spinning dizziness or the draining fatigue or the roller-coaster nausea, but because of my forced hiatus from achieving this year's goals! Then as I was reading James, I came across these verses:

4:13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into this or that town 17  and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.” 4:14 You 18  do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like? 19  For you are a puff of smoke 20  that appears for a short time and then vanishes. 4:15 You ought to say instead, 21  “If the Lord is willing, then we will live and do this or that.” 4:16 But as it is, 22  you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

God has been teaching me for years that my value is not in how much I accomplish, but in Him alone - I guess this lesson is one I am still learning. My life will not end if I only end up accomplishing "48 Things" or "39 Things" or even, gasp! "25 Things" off my list this year :). What matters is if God's will is accomplished in my life.

I was somehow able to:
 44. Finish hand-mending pair of jeans I've been working on for three months!

Next week, God willing, I will:
- keep reading God's Word and praying, resume exercising, and
33. Start a shop on etsy.

What are your goals, God-willing, for the next week? month? year?

  1. Yes, sometimes it is hard to submit our will to God's. I think this is a lesson that lasts throughout a lifetime for most of us if we are honest with ourselves. My goals are many but I don't put any pressure on myself to accomplish most of them. Perhaps only to start some of them ;-) (I've posted them all at my blog so I won't add a list here. It is too long!). Keep well....I'm sick with flu myself and so I know how tiring it can be. Hugs. xx

  2. @ Joyful - yeah, I am a "Martha" not a "Mary" - most happy when I am getting things done, and unhappy when I "have to" rest! God is working on me on this though! Hope you get well soon!

  3. I can so relate to your Mary/Martha moments :) Nice blog you have here .. we have a lot of similarities. I like your Speak Up for those who cannot speak for themselves sign .. my son cannot speak well (he has Down syndrome) .. so we/I do a lot of interpretation for him .. just discovered an IPad with an app called Proloquo2go .. that is GREAT!
